Project Ghost Glide 5/2009
This ’99 Road Glide has been photographed more times than any Bagger in history. The Ghost
Glide started life bone stock and was delivered to Hot Bike magazine in July 1998, a month later
the Bagger made its maiden voyage to Sturgis. The bike was part of the Harley-Davidson® fleet
and was eventually purchased from Harley. Originally the bike was painted an unflattering purple
and was nicknamed Purple Rain. The stock motor was upgraded to a 95” and then to a 103”. The
purple paint was redone with silver and maroon, by none other than Chopper legend Mike
Maldonado. The stock five-speed gears were upgraded to six-speed gears. Four different sets of
exhaust, numerous wheel changes, new fenders and a new tank have all graced this motorcycle. If
someone made a new Bagger part, it went on this Road Glide. As the American Bagger aftermarket
changed, this Bagger changed. Ten years in the making and she is finished.
