Got Wood 2/2010

From 1929-1951, the Ford Motor Company produced a station wagon with wood paneling and other wood components that we affectionately know today as the Woodie. Restored Woodies sell for as much as $50,000, depending upon their condition and restoration accuracy. Popular with surfers, and made famous by the Beach Boys, the Ford Woodie is often imitated by customizers, a perfect example is seen here. This Klock Werks Woodie only has two wheels, but it looks mighty classic. It’s also the only mass produced motor vehicle that can be eaten by termites or converted to kindling, that I’m aware of anyway. Daniel and Lori Krueger of Janesville, WI are the very proud owners of this Woodie bike.

This ’87 Softail Woodie features Aqua Marine paint with a pearl base and exotic wood panel graphics with “burnt-in” Klock Werks and Drag Specialties logos. Brad Smith performed the paint work; Texefx applied the pinstriping to make the wood pop.

Dan Cheeseman, Klock Werks’ master fabricator, worked his magic and then assisted the rest of the crew with assembly duties. It took six complete months from start to finish before it was able to roll out the door for that first ride.
