Road Rocket 3/2010
In the January issue of American Bagger magazine, for the Back Page Picture, we used a teaser photo of Mary Brown riding her custom Redneck Engineering Bagger. That issue also featured Sheila Cunningham on the cover, riding her customized Road King. Do you see a pattern developing? If women riders are the fasting growing segment of the Harley-Davidson® population, shouldn’t we be at the forefront of this growing movement? What these women have in common is a passion for American Baggers that equals their male counterparts and the desire to not conform to a stock motorcycle world.
Mary Brown’s Redneck Bagger runs as good as it looks. A 121” Evolution style motor from TP Engineering would be just as at home in a drag bike chassis as it is in a flashy Bagger. A big motor needs a big carburetor to deliver fuel; a Mikuni 45mm is more than capable for the job. A big motor and big carb setup requires exhaust pipes that evacuate the gasses quickly. Vance & Hines was the exhaust of choice to help this Redneck Bagger produce over 120 peak horsepower.
The Redneck chassis combines the best attributes of a Softail style frame with the comfort needed for long distance riding. The neck rake sits at 36°, with an additional six degrees of rake in the triple trees making this a long and low Bagger. The inverted 58mm front end is from American Suspension and rides on a 21” Performance Machine Wrath wheel that is wrapped in a Metzeler tire. Stopping up front is courtesy of a six piston HHI caliper and PM Wrath rotor. The back wheel is a massive 18 x 10” PM Wrath with a matching PM pulley. A four-piston HHI caliper squeezes a Wrath rotor for rear-wheel braking. The custom fairing is from Redneck, as is the oil tank. The fenders are Redneck customized Fat Katz components. A Dakota Digital display lets you know how fast you are going. One of my favorite redneck painters, Tex McDorman of Texefx, applied the Retro Western paint scheme. As you can see, Tex is a master at the subtle details.
