Classic King 3/2010
In 1999, Harley-Davidson® introduced the Twin Cam motor. The first generation of Twin Cams was plagued by problems with the Magneti Marelli fuel injection. All models were recalled for cam bearing failure. Alex Fierros doesn’t have to worry about any of that, his Twin Cam has been converted to a fire breathing 107” motor that is fueled by a Mikuni carburetor. This bike does have a lot of chrome and a fancy paint job, but it’s all about the performance!
Alex’s motor was rebuilt top to bottom. The original 88” Twin Cam has only retained the stock cases, lifters and lifter blocks. JT&S Performance and GMR Performance are responsible for the motor rebuild. The flywheels are now Screamin’ Eagle Pro Strokers; connecting rods are also Screamin’ Eagle components, the cams are from R&R, as are the roller rockers. Screamin’ Eagle supplied the adjustable pushrods, the pistons are forged units from CP, R&R Cycles provided the heads, a Crane Fireball HI-4 handles the ignition, while a polished 42mm Mikuni supplies the gas (I would have thought a 45mm), and a D&D FatCat handles the exhaust. The end result is 110 horsepower and a compression ratio of 10.5:1. Before the engine was rebuilt, the stock motor was putting out around 60 horses.
