Santa Ana, CA — Royal Riding is honored to have been able to assist the Veterans Charity Ride during the Sturgis Rally this year. A group of 20 heroes from all branches of the service mounted up on Indian Motorcycles and six Champion Sidecars rigs to ride from Los Angeles to the 77th Sturgis Rally, culminating with a stop at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall Of Fame.
"ROR Brands is on a mission to revitalize the industry while making a positive impact on the powersports community as a whole," explains ROR president Rod Derifield. "We wanted to help Dave Frey and his quest to change lives and save lives of wounded, injured and amputee veterans through the use of motorcycle therapy." Derifield not only donated a percentage of all Royal Riding gel seat pad sales in the months leading up to August, he matched it to be able to present VCR's founder Dave Frey with a check during the Rally.
"We spend nine days riding on America’s most beautiful backroads and highways, getting to know each other and helping each other with Motorcycle Therapy and Veteran-to-Veteran discussions," says Frey. "The shared experiences of serving brings them together to help each other heal. We also show the Veterans just how much their service means to America, by stopping in small towns along the way to meet the grateful people of our nation who want to welcome and celebrate these brave men and women."
From eight riders in 2015, to 20 riders in 2016 and 2017, this simple concept, born out of a cross-country ride and a big purpose to help veterans, is now a nationally recognized 501c program. "We are honored to be able to salute these heroes," adds Derifield. "Motorcycle Therapy is the perfect platform for Royal Riding's #RideFarther philosophy. "
In addition to donating some cash, Derifield was able to hook up U.S. Army Corporal (ret) Josh Stein with a custom Royal Riding gel seat pad for the ride home. A combat engineer, he was deployed to Iraq where he was critically wounded on Easter Sunday, 2006.
"This is one of those rides you don't even believe exists," says Stein, a double amputee. "It doesn't even seem real. You get a bunch of vets together and you're gonna go to Sturgis? Are you serious? Getting to spend this whole time with other veterans, like-minded people, is absolutely great." He was pretty stoked about the seat pad to make the ride back much more comfortable!
"Royal Riding’s exclusive viscoelastic gel inserts and countour-cushioning foam in our Cool-Tush™ pads absorb vibration and eliminate shock without bottoming out," says head product designer Lars Roulund. "This is critical in Josh's case. His gel-integrated pad will make it possible to Ride Farther in less pain."
